Boston filmmaker Lee Loechler made sure his marriage proposal to Dr. Sthuthi David will be a moment they'll always remember.

Loechler edited himself and his future fiancée into her favorite film — Disney's Sleeping Beauty — and surprised her at a movie theater. Video of the adorable moment was uploaded on Thursday, and has quickly spread.

The proposal had been in the works for a while, Loechler working with Australian illustrator Kayla Coombs for six months to alter the classic cartoon. In the pivotal scene where Prince Phillip wakes Princess Aurora with a kiss, Loechler replaced the animated couple with Disney-esque representations of himself and David. Prince Lee then presents Princess Sthuthi with a ring.

Judging from her facial expression, David could tell something was off about the scene well before the ring appeared. But it was only once the animated Loechler appeared to toss the real Loechler a ring box, complete with the shadow of it edited into the film, that she realised it was all for her.

"It’s not every day you get to propose to your high school sweetheart," said Loechler while down on one knee before his soon-to-be fiancée.

David, of course, said yes.

"The only thing better than seeing the smartest person I know completely dumbfounded was knowing we’d get to live happily ever after together," wrote Loechler on his Instagram.

In order to pull it off, the groom-to-be rented a screening room at Coolidge Corner Theater on Dec. 30 and made fake movie tickets, tricking David into inviting him to what she believed would be an ordinary screening.

Loechler also invited random strangers to fill the seats and further throw David off the scent — as well as to hide the couple's friends and family in the crowd. Posting to the r/boston subreddit in early December, he offered beer, pizza, and his eternal gratitude to anyone who would come and help him with his grand plan.

As a result, the plan went off without a hitch, David not even realising the depth of the conspiracy until Loechler told her that everyone in the screening was in on it.

An important caveat: Proposing publicly should generally be avoided unless you’ve discussed marriage with your partner and are sure they’ll want to say yes.

Loechler seemed pretty confident he knew what David's answer to his life-altering question would be. However, in the event she said no, he also treated the theater to an alternative ending: a montage of Snow White's dwarfs sobbing to the melancholy strains of 'Mad World'.

Fortunately it wasn't needed, and Loechler and David are getting their fairytale ending. Or, as Loechler put it, their beginning.
