Australia is the land where tourists assume everything will try to kill you.

"Not true!" The locals cry. Except for the sharks, spiders that bite you on the penis and snakes that hide in your Ugg boots, it's safe as houses. Unless you're visiting during spring a.k.a. snake mating season (which happens to overlap with magpie swooping season). Then you're screwed.

One man happened across two carpet pythons definitely not hugging in the kitchen of his Queensland home. Though terrifying to watch, this sort of behaviour is common during spring, as pythons compete for dominance and a the opportunity to breed.

The man behind the video, Murray Paas told ABC that "one of these ones has been living above my bedroom in the ceiling. I'm fine with it because it keeps the pests away."

Elsewhere, a home owner from Noosa, Queensland, filmed a python fight in her backyard pool recently, introducing the footage with a simple and defeated "not again!"

If you have a pool in sub-tropical Australia, and at some point you're going to have serpents from hell wrestling in it.

Proving that perhaps she views the snake-on-snake combat as something of a non-event, a second video shows one snake biting the other, followed by a cool pan to a bird chilling out on the other side of the pool.

Commonplace and expected as snake fights are across Australia during spring, safety should be the first priority for visitors and residents alike.

Just don't poke them you'll be fine.
