Snapchat is making it easier to follow the publishers it features in its Discover section.

Snapchat rolled out its new look for Discover on Tuesday, bringing a more magazine-like layout to its publishers' content and the ability for users to subscribe to specific channels.

The new design swaps Discover's round icons, which previously only displayed a publication's logo, for square icons that include an image and a headline. The update, which was rumored to be in the works for some time, marks the first time Snapchat's media partners (including Mashable) will be able to tease specific content within their channels.

It also brings a new subscribe feature, which allows users to subscribe to the channels they want to follow more closely. Once you subscribe, by pressing and holding a publisher's story, that channel will always appear in your stories -- both at the top near the Live Stories and in the "recent updates" section.

Both Snapchat and its media partners are hoping the refresh will help boost engagement with Discover, which has reportedly been inconsistent. Some channels have claimed to attract millions of users a day while others may be seeing only a fraction of that.

But the opportunity for all of Snapchat's Discover partners (and advertisers) remains huge. If the company can succeed in pushing more of its 150 million daily active users to Discover then both sides stand to see much bigger returns from the partnership.
