SNES Classic outsells PS4 and Xbox One for the second month in a row

Despite its lack of availability, the SNES Classic outsold both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 for the second month in a row.

Nintendo announced Thursday that for the month of October, the Nintendo Switch took the no. 1 spot for console sales in the U.S. and the SNES Classic took second place, according to the market research company NPD Group.

In September, the SNES Classic topped the console sales chart, even though it released on Sept. 29 and was pretty difficult for people to get their hands on.

Since its launch, the SNES Classic has had quite the limited availability, with restocks selling out online within a minute or two at major retailers, showing just how much demand the throwback console still has a month after its release.

After the supply disaster that was the NES Classic, for which Nintendo severely underestimated fans' demands, Nintendo promised to do better with the SNES Classic (read: make more). Nintendo of America head Reggie Fils-Aime even told fans not to pay up to the demands of SNES Classic resellers and scalpers.

It seems that, so far, Nintendo has upheld that promise and the SNES Classic has been at least easier for fans to get their hands on. But, of course, demand is still outpacing supply a month and a half after its release.
