Believe it or not, repeatedly pumping carbon dioxide into a small bottle might just make it go boom. One line of bottles from DIY soft-drink maker SodaStream's has been declared particularly prone to explosions, so the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued a recall.

The one-liter bottles in question have a blue tint and base, dishwasher safe labels and an expiration date of April 2020. When pressurized or shaken the bottles might burst and potentially injure bystanders. However, no one appears to have reported being injured by an exploding bottle — SodaStream's move is precautionary.

Here's a photo of the bottles in question:

The CPSC estimates 51,000 of these bottles have been sold in the US (with an additional 7,600 in Canada) at Bed Bath & Beyond, Target, Amazon and other major retailers since February 2016. If you're worried you've been using one of these volatile bottles, head to SodaStream's recall page, where you can check your product and register for a full refund.
