"It's OK that you don't know what the future holds."

For Teen Vogue's Music Issue, singer Solange wrote a letter to her teenage self in which she expressed her desire for her teen self to not to be in a rush to grow up and figure everything out.

The "Cranes in the Sky" singer described being teased by children and adults as a child but encouraged herself that, as she grows other, she will, "turn those words into a symbol of beauty." She reflected on her supportive, successful mother who makes her feel "invincible" who surrounded her with other black women who make "the impossible look effortless."

Solange expressed gratitude for those relationships as a young black woman saying, "you study them, and will constantly think of all their stories, their beauty, their strife and their stride. They break down all of the archetypes and stereotypes that you see of black women on TV and in magazines, so you don’t trust those anymore. you thank them for re-writing the script before it was ever etched in your memory."

Solange also acknowledged that "17 will be the hardest year of your life" as that is the year she lost a friend to gun violence and gave birth to son, Daniel Julez Smith, Jr. She doesn't sugarcoat the pain and strife her younger self will go through but explains, "you have a long life ahead of you, and I'll tell you it’s not gonna always be easy, but I can promise you it will be fruitful and with much purpose."

Fans were incredibly moved with Solange's ability to be completely raw and candid about her past while also offering up advice that anyone can use at any age.
