Sony is expected to announce details around two new consoles: the PlayStation "Neo" and the previously-leaked PS4 "Slim."

Neo is the codename given to Sony's next console, which will be an upgraded version of the PS4, Sony Interactive Entertainment President Andrew House told the Financial Times. While it won't be a full generation leap or replace the PS4, the Neo will support 4K resolutions and have improved processing power, similar to Microsoft's Project Scorpio console, announced at E3.

The PS4 Slim received its name from the public after several unboxing videos appeared online in August. Those videos show a slimmer design with some changes, including the lack of an optical port and a slightly modified controller. It's possible that this console will replace the current version of the PlayStation 4 and not receive a name like "Slim."

Aside from big console news, Sony could drop other surprises, including information around PlayStation VR and new game releases.
