SoundCloud takes on Spotify with new Suggested Tracks feature

In a move to compete with Spotify's popular Discover Weekly feature, SoundCloud announced Suggested Tracks, which recommends music to users based on their past streams. 

The feature began rolling out on Wednesday and can be found in the new Discover tab on the site and via the search field in the app. In a statement announcing the launch, SoundCloud said that Suggested Tracks will use its "state-of-the-art machine learning algorithm" to show only "fresh new music." 

The rollout comes one day after the company announced that it's rolling out video ads on its free content. 

Back in March, SoundCloud launched its own subscription service called SoundCloud Go with a $9.99/month model similar to competitors like Spotify, Apple Music and TIDAL. At the time, founder and CEO Alexander Ljung said it was a way "for our unique creative community to have the opportunity to be paid for their work."
