Australia's own version of the Northern Lights has been cranking this week, with the Aurora Australis weaving its way across skies in Tasmania.

The Southern Lights, as they're more commonly known, have been appearing in the sky over Hobart for the past week, prompting a significant amount of Instagram posts and well-deserved smuggery from Tasmanians and New Zealanders.

It's a good time to live in Tasmania if you're into highly Instagrammable light phenomena — the Southern Lights made a cameo in the state, and also locations across New Zealand, in March 2017.
