See Michelle totally bust young Barack Obama in this 'Southside With You' clip
LOS ANGELES -- "Pretty good setting to bring a girl -- surrounded by people who adore you."
Michelle Robinson wasn't letting this guy get away with that.
Southside With You, the (mostly) historically accurate cinematic account of the Obamas' courtship in 1989, may not have resulted in much, except that the skinny kid with the big ears had a plan: He brought her to a community meeting where, unbeknownst to his supervisor, he would give a rousing speech to a roomful of admirers who would sing his praises.
In this exclusive clip, we see that Michelle (Tika Sumpter) -- who insisted all along that their first date was not a date -- wasn't going to just let Barack (Parker Sawyer) smooth-move her:
There is some debate as to whether Obama actually brought Michelle Robinson to that meeting on their first date or a subsequent one ... but it definitely happened, and director Richard Tanne admitted after the film's Sundance premiere that his timeline was a bit of a composite.
Southside With You opens in select theaters on Aug. 26.
