One of the most divisive debates in modern history is taking centerstage in Europe this weekend: Do you let the end of toilet paper hang in front of the roll or behind it?

European Splatoon 2 players will be choosing sides in the ongoing battle between over-hangers and under-hangers in this weekend's Splatfest to determine once-and-for-all what the superior method of toilet paper hanging is. The battle starts Oct. 7 at 4 p.m. CET.

The winner will be decided after the Splatfest ends Oct. 8 and will be judged on three categories: which side was picked by the most people, which side earned more individual victories over the other, and which side earned more team victories over the other. Not being judged: the actual merits of the front versus back hang.

I for one was raised in a front roll household, and generally find the front roll method to be preferable -- it's easier to grab and tear. But I can see why someone would pick the back roll method, namely if you have a cat or other animal that likes to paw at the toilet paper roll.

If you don't have a pet (or young child) that tries to unroll your toilet paper, I believe in my heart that there is no reason for you to pick the back roll style.

Previous Splatfests in Splatoon 2 have included Japan's battle between Chicken McNuggets and french fries, and North America's battle between ketchup and mayonnaise. Chicken McNuggets won out in japan, and mayonnaise beat out ketchup in North America.

This particular Splatfest has been a long time coming -- players in the original Splatoon suggested the over/under debate as a Splatfest idea a couple years ago.

The announcement of the toilet paper Splatfest inspired an early poll on Twitter, which shows a landslide victory for front rollers.

We'll see which toilet paper team wins out on Sunday.
