The long-in-the-works SpongeBob SquarePants musical — which, somehow, had a well-reviewed out-of-town tryout last summer in Chicago — is officially coming to Broadway in November, producers announced Monday.

And yes, it's easy to roll your eyes at the idea that someone is making a SpongeBob SquarePants musical: Aren't there any original ideas anymore? Aren't we all done with that lovable cartoon? (Obviously not.)

But stick with us here before you scoff.

The show, which details a new adventure in Bikini Bottom for SpongeBob and Co., features original songs from (deep breath) Steven Tyler and Joe Perry, Sara Bareilles, John Legend, The Flaming Lips Cyndi Lauper, Panic! At the Disco and even David Bowie. Yes, David Bowie.

"Stakes are higher than ever before as SpongeBob and all of Bikini Bottom face the total annihilation of their undersea world," the official website explains. "Chaos erupts. Lives hang in the balance. And just when all hope seems lost, a most unexpected hero rises up and takes center stage. Get ready to dive to all-new depths of theatrical innovation at SpongeBob SquarePants, where the power of optimism really can save the world!"

In case you've forgotten, SpongeBob is more than just a hilarious meme. The show has been airing new episodes on Nickelodeon since 1999, and there have also been two feature films. Honestly, a musical at some point was inevitable, so the fact that there's a fair amount of prestige talent behind the production (Tom Kitt is music supervisor, Tina Landau is directing) is an unexpected treat.

Tickets go on sale June 26.
