Alright, alright, alright: Matthew McConaughey set for 'Spring Breakers' sequel
The Spring Breakers sequel is really and truly happening – and its first casting choice couldn't be more perfect.
Matthew McConaughey has been set to star in The Beach Bum, described as an "irreverent comedy" about "a rebellious and lovable rogue" named Moondog. Harmony Korine will return to write and direct.
The Beach Bum is billed as a "follow-up" to Spring Breakers, rather than a direct sequel. According to i-D, The Beach Bum will share the same setting as Spring Breakers but is unlikely to bring back the main characters. Shooting will begin this fall for release in 2018.
It's hard to think of a star better suited for The Beach Bum than McConaughey, who before the current McConnaissance was frequently caught bumming around on the beach and playing the bongos naked.
He's basically built a career playing rebellious rogues who refuse to grow up, starting with his breakout turn in Dazed and Confused as David "I get older, they stay the same age" Wooderson.
Looks like Rust Cohle was right after all. Time really is a flat circle.
