Spyro is coming back this September in Spyro Reignited Trilogy, a remaster of the first three games of the beloved series.

Spyro Reignited Trilogy is giving a high-definition makeover to Spyro the dragon and his first three games from 1998, 1999, and 2000: Spyro the Dragon, Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage!, and Spyro: Year of the Dragon. The collection will be arriving Sept. 21 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One for $39.99.

The Spyro series stars the iconic purple dragon Spyro who travels through worlds of varied environments collecting treasures, defeating evildoers, rescuing his buddies, and telling jokes. The main series ran from 1998 to 2008 and then spun-off into the Skylanders series.

Fans of the series have been itching for a new Spyro adventure, and Spyro Reignited Trilogy should scratch that itch for long-time players as it follows in the remaster footsteps of the Crash Bandicoot series.

Here are some side-by-side comparisons of Spyro Reignited Trilogy screenshots next to screenshots from the original PlayStation games:

As you can see, the visuals have been greatly improved since the series kicked off 20 years ago. But this isn't just a visual overhaul — the games have been rebuilt from the ground up by developer Toys for Bob with improvements made across the board from level design to controls.

"We're deeply passionate about staying true to the legacy of the original three Spyro games with the Spyro Reignited Trilogy,” Paul Yan, chief creative officer at Toys for Bob said in a release. “We've poured a lot of love into making the personalities and worlds feel just like fans remember them, while also keeping the game collection surprisingly fresh with lush, high definition detail. We're bringing back the Spyro we all fell in love with 20 years ago."

Before the official announcement dropped about the Spyro trilogy, Amazon leaked a listing for the game including a handful of screenshots which circulated around the internet Thursday morning.
