Thais can now buy Sriracha sauce, to see what all the fuss is about.

The popular chilli sauce comes from Californian manufacturer Huy Fong Foods, founded by Vietnamese-American David Tran, which has been making it since the 1980s.

Huy Fong's sauce, in its distinctive red rooster packaging, is often thought of as originating from Thailand, because it's similar to the garlicky dipping sauces used in seafood restaurants there. It's also named after the Thai province of Si Racha.

But Sriracha -- capital S -- is entirely American. Most Southeast Asian countries don't carry it.

Now, Thais can buy it via online retailer Lazada. According to Huy Fong's new Facebook page promoting Sriracha in Thailand, the product will start showing up on traditional supermarket shelves, too -- likely next to the other local sriracha sauces.

It remains to be seen if Thais will appreciate the spicy tangy sauce, when they have a variety of competing sauces already in the market.

At least now they'll get to see what Americans are crazy about.
