Star Wars fans can finally start planning their trips to the new Disney theme park lands. Disney has confirmed that Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge will open in California and Florida ahead of previously scheduled dates.

The park will open May 31 at Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, and August 29 at Disney's Hollywood Studios in Orlando. The Anaheim opening was originally scheduled for summer and Orlando for fall.

Naturally, gaining entry in the opening months is going to be tougher than clinching those opening night tickets to the latest movie. Disney will require no-cost reservations for Disneyland along with regular park admission for anyone visiting between May 31 and June 23. There are currently no reservations required or offered for the Florida location.

Despite some mouthwatering behind-the-scenes footage, not much is known about Galaxy's Edge. The park promises to be an immersive and unforgettable experience for Star Wars fans longing to visit that elusive galaxy far, far away. Visitors will feel like they're riding their favorite space ships, visiting new planets – and of course, grabbing a bite at the cantina.

Two of the main attractions thus far are Millenium Falcon: Smuggler's Run, which lets riders take a crack at piloting Han Solo's infamous ship, and Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, which takes guests through a battle between the First Order and the Resistance that "will blur the lines between fantasy and reality" (that one won't open until later in the year).

Galaxy's Edge has been in the works for years, tied to the newest unfurling Star Wars film trilogy whose third chapter is due in December. With May and August openings, fans will be gearing up with anticipation for Episode IX, and the park might even have some hidden clues we won't catch until 2020.
