Obi-Wan Kenobi will be the next 'Star Wars' character to get his own spinoff

It looks like we'll finally get to see the Star Wars universe from a certain point of view.

Lucasfilm is planning a standalone Star Wars movie to be centered around Obi-Wan Kenobi, with Stephen Daldry (Billy Elliot) in early talks to direct.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, which first broke the news Thursday, the project is still in the nascent stages, with no script in place at this time. The Obi-Wan movie is apparently one of several spinoffs in development at Lucasfilm, along with projects focused on Boba Fett and Yoda.

Disney had no comment.

Still unclear is whether Ewan McGregor, who portrayed the character in the Star Wars prequel trilogy, will reprise his role. For what it's worth, though, the actor has expressed his interest several times over.
