Find out your state's favorite 'Star Wars' movie

It's always fun to judge someone by their favorite Star Wars movie, so how about judging a whole U.S. state? We're sick enough of looking at those electoral college maps, so Reviews.org used data from Google trends to determine every state's favorite Star Wars movie.

A lovely, color-coded map represents every movie, from 1977's A New Hope to 2016's Rogue One.

A New Hope was the most popular, but beloved overwhelmingly by southeast and northeast regions of the country. The Midwest and West Coast took more to Return of the Jedi, while Empire Strikes Back inexplicably only topped the results in Utah. Idaho was a similar holdout, but for Attack of the Clones, which points to either extremely questionable taste preferences or perhaps a fervent mistrust of sand. Swing states like Florida and Michigan swung for Episode VII: The Force Awakens, with fans of The Phantom Menace and Revenge of the Sith sprinkled throughout.

Reviews.org studied Google data from as early as 2004, before Revenge of the Sith, The Force Awakens, or Rogue One had released in theaters. Other findings showed that Return of the Jedi resonates with blue states (California, Oregon, Illinois, etc.) and that Virginians Googled these movies less than citizens of any other state (ranking last for five of the eight movies).
