Bad news broke for basketball fans Monday, when Golden State Warriors star and back-to-back NBA MVP Steph Curry announced he'll skip the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

Bummer -- but it's hard to blame the guy.

Curry released a statement through the Warriors on Monday morning, saying that an off-season of rest is the "best decision for me at this stage of my career."

Curry is the most entertaining basketball player on planet Earth right now, so of course not seeing him in Rio this summer is a letdown. But consider what the past two years have held for him, with the Warriors currently two wins away from winning their second consecutive NBA Finals. (We've come a long way since the the #FullSquad days.)

Since the 2014-15 season began:

  • Along with his teammates, he fell "in love with the CoCo."

  • His daughter, Riley, has become a celebrity in her own right

  • The Warriors won the 2015 NBA title, playing 103 total games between the regular season and playoffs last year.

  • Curry has become a full-on American celebrity, navigating the demands and time strains that come with his new level of fame.

  • Curry somehow raised his game after winning MVP, stunning basketball fans the world over while doing so.

  • The Warriors are now two victories from going back-to-back and winning the 2016 NBA title -- which will again put their total games-played count around 100.

So yeah -- you can't blame Curry if he needs some rest this summer. The man's been busy.
