Stephen King has been scaring us for decades.

The legendary horror author has spent the past 40 years bringing to life the shadowiest corners of our imaginations, introducing nightmare-conjuring creations into our trembling, fragile psyches.

But somehow, he's managed to overlook the most horrifying, abominable, wretched creation living amongst us today.

We're talking, of course, about "Baby Shark" – the horrendously catchy, viral monstrosity that was uploaded to YouTube around the time Pokémon Go became a thing.

Watch it again at your peril:

The song carved its way into the meme hall of fame in the years after its 2016 release, helped along by the likes of the #babysharkchallenge. By 2019, it had made its way into the Billboard charts. At the time of writing it has 3.8 billion views on YouTube.

And now, the dreaded song has finally made its way to Stephen King's ears.

Another victim claimed.

Soon, one fan even came out with the idea for a truly nightmarish mashup.

It's difficult to know which phrase in that combination is the most shudder-inducing.
