Although it was first published over 40 years ago, The Stand remains one of Stephen King's most iconic novels.

It's also one of the longest single-part novels he's ever written. The version I have sitting on my bookshelf is over 1,300 beautiful pages long, which puts it up there with IT in terms of the sheer volume of material in the thing.

But apparently, King has even more ideas for the story that he's only just writing now.

On Thursday, Deadline reported that the horror master is writing a "continuation" of the book as part of the upcoming CBS limited series adaptation. The news broke as part of a press tour for the Television Critics Association (TCA).

And later that night, King himself confirmed it.

Eek!

“For fans of the book who have wondered what became of the survivors of the stand, this episode will contain a story that takes us beyond the book to answer those questions,” said Julie McNamara, CBS All Access EVP, per Deadline. “A continuation to The Stand; we can’t wait to share that with the world.”

James Marsden, Amber Heard, Odessa Young, and Henry Zaga have been cast in the series, which doesn't yet have a release date.

Shortly after King tweeted, showrunner Josh Boone shared an image of the tweet on his Instagram page.

"Well, I can die now," he wrote. "Wait. I have to shoot the last hour first."
