Stickers of children stepping onto road should make you slow down
Road safety awareness often means graphic advertising, but a new campaign is a taking a visual, creative approach to making drivers aware on the streets.
The Australian Road Safety Foundation (ARSF) have released a series of stickers on Friday that can be placed on roadside garbage bins, featuring children stepping towards the road and speed limit signs.

They've been dubbed life saving stickers by the foundation, aiming to provide a bold reminder to drivers on suburban streets. "We believe these stickers have the potential to have a real impact on our roads," Russell White, ARSF CEO, said in a statement via email.
It is hoped drivers have an emotional reaction to the stickers, and think of the reality of a child running out onto the road.
"We have seen some very effective road safety campaigns in recent years that highlight the danger that speeding poses to children crossing streets," White said. "The 'Life Saving' sticker campaign builds on this education process, by providing a real-time reminder to motorists to reduce their speed."
According to statistics by Australia's Bureau of Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Economics, the majority of fatal crashes occur on a weekday during the day. It's when children are most likely crossing roads, according to the ARSF.
Aside from being a cool little addition to a usually dreary garbage bin, it's a small gesture that could save lives on the road.
