We won't be venturing back to the Upside Down until October 27, but the cast and creators of Stranger Things were kind enough to give us a brief glimpse of the trip we're about to take at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday afternoon, courtesy of a thrilling new trailer. ('cause the music in the trailer is Thriller, get it?)

The cast gave series creators the Duffer brothers a standing ovation on stage after watching the footage, which was the first time they'd gotten to see it -- and the Hall H crowd was equally pumped.

The extended trailer gives us our first look at the return of Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) who appears to be trapped in the Upside Down.

Meanwhile, Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) is clearly suffering some serious effects from his time in the terrifying dark dimension -- he's seeing visions of the Upside Down leeching into the real world, making a seemingly fun trip to the arcade into a traumatic post-apocalyptic experience.

The promo also features our first glimpse of new characters Max (Sadie Sink), who joins the boys' class after moving to Hawkins from California, and Bob Newby (Sean Astin), a kind-hearted former nerd who went to high school with Joyce (Winona Ryder) and Hopper (David Harbour) and now manages the local Hawkins RadioShack.

Harbour promised that Hopper's hero's journey will continue in Season 2, which will dig into "the psychology of a heroic action." After saving Will last season, and forging a paternal relationship with Eleven after the loss of his daughter, Harbour says Hopper's struggle will be reflected in whether he can live up to that heroic deed moving forward.

"You’re going to see a wildly different arc, and it all begins with leaving Eggos for a character in the woods … he’s got some daughter issues of his own, as you all know," he teased.

Something else to look forward to? "Sheriff Hopper gets to do some very thrilling, sexy things in Season 2," Harbour quipped. "So enjoy, kids!"

Season 2 of Stranger Things will take place a year after the first season -- it’s 1984 and the citizens of Hawkins, Indiana are still reeling from the horrors of the Demogorgon and the secrets of Hawkins Lab. Will Byers has been rescued from the Upside Down but a bigger, sinister entity still threatens those who survived.
