Hot off his divisive turn as the Joker in Suicide Squad, Oscar winner Jared Leto has signed on for a "key role" alongside Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford in Denis Villeneuve's Blade Runner sequel, it was announced Thursday by Alcon Entertainment.

Robin Wright and Mackenzie Davis co-star alongside Ana de Armas, Sylvia Hoeks, Carla Juri, Hiam Abbass, Lennie James, Guardians of the Galaxy star Dave Bautista, Oscar-nominated actor Barkhad Abdi and Villeneuve's Prisoners actor David Dastmalchian.

The sequel is set several decades after the 1982 original, with Ford reprising his iconic role as Rick Deckard. Original director Ridley Scott is among the executive producers on the film, which was written by Hampton Fancher and Michael Green.

The script succeeds the initial story by Fancher and David Peoples based on Philip K. Dick’s novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep. Story details remain under wraps.

Warner Bros. will release the Blade Runner sequel on Oct. 6, 2017.

Leto won an Oscar and a Golden Globe for his devastating performance in Dallas Buyers Club. The Suicide Squad star also doubles as the frontman for the band Thirty Seconds to Mars.

But to a certain segment of the population, he'll always be Jordan Catalano from My So-Called Life.
