You can say a lot of things about Super 8, but you can't say the motel brand doesn't have a sense of humor.

As part of a rebranding, Super 8 is giving away all its old motel room art — from all 1,800 motel locations — with 100 works featured at a gallery event in New York City hosted by comedian Amy Sedaris.

The event, When the Art Comes Down: Works from the Super 8 Collection, will be at a gallery on Bowery in Manhattan and feature such classics as "Horses running in a meadow" and "Floral."*

At least, those might be the names. That depends on Sedaris, who was tasked with naming all the artwork.

"That art could not be uglier. The hardest thing I ever did in my life was to come up with names for it all."

"Let me tell you something," Sedaris told the Associated Press. "That art could not be uglier. The hardest thing I ever did in my life was to come up with names for it all. That was really hard. You're just looking at something, and I don't know what to call it — 'That (expletive) Duck' — mindless art."

But the artwork isn't just ugly. It's also old.

Some of the pieces have hung in motel rooms for 40 years. And they'll be given away to the public, first come, first serve, to make room for new, local art at each Super 8 location. The idea for the new art, a spokesperson told Mashable, is to make sure guests know exactly where they are when they wake up.

(That's in a specific city, not in a cookie cutter motel room.)

So while the old art looks like ... well, old motel art:

The new art looks much more modern:

Sedaris says she's familiar with the old Super 8s. "When I was touring with Second City, we always stayed in Super 8s," she said.
