Susan Sarandon was the guest of honour at a luncheon in Melbourne, Australia for the festival La Dolce Italia, to impart her sage wisdom, anecdotes, and a deliver a casual sledging to a reality star.

Sarandon's appearance, which was also in support of the Bully Zero Australia Foundation, saw her fielding questions on everything from politics to gender and the role of women in Hollywood.

Decrying reality shows such as The Real Housewives Sarandon stated "that's why I hate those reality shows, the wives of wherever, because they thrive on provoking fights," she said according to The Sydney Morning Herald.

All this, despite a star of the Melbourne incarnation of the Real Housewives franchise, Pettifleur Berenger, being amongst the guests at the event. With the insight and tenacity of a Herculean oracle, Sarandon queried Berenger on why she wasn't using her platform to reinterpret the stereotype that the show pushes, and to be "like the Gandhi of reality shows?"

Berenger responded that her goal and the goal of The Real Housewives franchise was to create content that would raise ratings and manufacture watchable drama. "The bigger the fight, the better the ratings," Berenger said.

Unimpressed, Sarandon rebuked "I find this very concerning because it isn't as dramatic to get along."

During the night, Sarandon also mentioned her own experience of the girl-on-girl narrative often pushed by the media. "It really angers me when the press comes to me to criticise another woman in the business because, God knows, we have a hard enough time without turning on each other."
