More than four years ago, T-Mobile merged with Sprint to form a gargantuan mobile network across the U.S. Whether that's been a successful gambit is above my pay grade, but at the very least, T-Mobile can say it has the fastest network in the land. Well, according to Ookla, anyway.

The folks behind the popular Speedtest software (Note: Mashable and Ookla are owned by the same parent company) put together a report scraping user data from January through June of this year, concluding that T-Mobile beats Verizon and AT&T at almost every metric that matters.

T-Mobile vs. AT&T vs. Verizon: Which network is fastest?

Ookla measured the three networks using multiple metrics, including raw speed and consistency. Spoiler alert, but T-Mobile won just about all of them. For instance, here's how the three networks stack up in terms of speed using Ookla's "Speed Score" metric, which combines download and upload speed into one number:

  • T-Mobile: 205.98

  • Verizon: 112.28

  • AT&T: 107.77

Not every category is that stark. For example, T-Mobile's consistency score (which measures how often a network puts out at least 5Mbps down and 1Mbps up) was within six percentage points of AT&T's, the third-place winner of that category. Still, based on Ookla's findings, T-Mobile has claimed the top spot in the mobile network wars.
