Subway cars get turned into brain-bending photo illusions
No, that's a subway car, not an Olympic swimming pool.
Taipei's subway is being turned into realistic-looking sporting venues, in celebration of an international sports meet in August.
The city will host the upcoming Summer Universiade, or World University Games, inviting participants from over 170 countries to compete.
In promotion, the subway cars were turned into swimming pools, running tracks, soccer fields, baseball diamonds, and basketball courts.
All set for Instagram.
The 2017 Summer Universiade was awarded to Taipei back in 2011, when the city beat out Brasilia, the capital of Brazil, to host the college athlete tournament.
The city has constructed nearly 70 venues in preparation for the games, which nearly 10,000 athletes from 150 countries are expected to participate in.
The redesign saw some commuters take selfies with #fitspo-worthy captions:
"Surpass your peak. Whether you succeed or not, just run."
"Playing basketball is an attitude. You can re-enact Hooping Dulcinea (a popular Taiwanese show about basketball) on the subway. #justdoit"
Some even turned up in their swimsuits and cute pool floats:
"Drifting along on the Taipei subway."
"We were afraid of getting a tan, so we had to go swim in the subway."
"Wow, swimming in the subway, where there's air-conditioning. Great!"
"I'm wowed by my own courage. When you're 17, you need to do some crazy stuff!"
The Universiade will run from Aug. 19 to Aug. 30, and tickets can be purchased here.
