Exam season is a time for procrastinating.

More importantly, it's a time when teens go absolutely bonkers to keep themselves from dying a slow, textbook-related death.

Such is true for two students, Lauryn, who resides in England, and Rebzy, who's from Scotland. The 16-year-olds went on Twitter this week to have a contest to see how many pens they could hold in their heads.

"I have exams this month, so I was revising. I got bored after like two minutes and had a bunch of pens in front of me," Lauryn told Mashable in an email. "For whatever reason, I thought it would be a good idea to post a picture holding them on my head."

From there, Lauryn's friend Rebzy joined in and things got... weird.

"I saw that she was only able to initially do seven pens," Rebzy told Mashable in an email. "I immediately thought 'I can do better'. So I responded with 14 pens, and it just escalated."

In an series of escalating photos, viewers were shocked to see how many pens a human head could really hold.

The tweets have since been retweeted thousands of times, shocking both girls.

"It's actually kind of embarrassing [to go viral]," Lauryn said. "But it's also hilarious because I wasn't expecting it. I thought one of my friends would tell me to shut up and revise and that would be the end of it."

"It feels odd going viral," Rebzy agreed. "We've always kind of thought, 'what's that like?' but we never started the contest for attention. We solely wanted to top each other."

While going viral surprised the teens, spectators of their contest found it most surprising that the teens owned hundreds of pens each. And colorful ones at that.

"I own so many pens and pencils because I make art in my free time," Rebzy explained. "It's just kind of been a growing collection that started 10 years ago."

So that explains it.

Below is the rest of the pen war, which ends with a crushing defeat, as Rebzy manages to cram 242 - yes, two hundred and forty two -- pens into and onto her cranium.

While Rebzy is the current winner with 242 pens, Lauryn has something up her sleeve.

"When Rebzy posted the last picture the thread had already blown up, so I didn't want to milk it, but at some point -- when she doesn't expect it -- I'm going to come back at her with 300," she promised.

Bless.
