Telstra users have been suffering through yet another outage on the company's network.

From late morning Tuesday, customers of Australia's largest telecommunication network began voicing their dismay on social media about their inability to make phone calls. For businesses that rely on Telstra, in particular, it was having a drastic impact.

While claiming the outage affected less than 3% of mobile customers, Telstra has since apologised for the incident.

Judging by the website Aussie Outages, which tracks the status reports of telecommunication providers, Melbourne was hardest hit. Telstra's service status page also showed interruptions across the network.

Telstra later confirmed that Victoria and Tasmania were mainly affected.

At 1.19 p.m. AEDT, Telstra claimed the outage had been resolved. As of 4 p.m. AEDT, however, customers on social media were still reporting they could not make calls, and a Telstra spokesperson admitted to Mashable Australia there could be some residual issues.

Outages are becoming all too familiar for the network. On Friday, calls and data were affected across the country just in time for happy hour, while a February outage hit mobile and Internet services across Australia.

While last week's breakdown was attributed to an offshore roaming issue that had a knock on effect causing "extreme congestion" on the network, February's was blamed on "human error."

On Tuesday, the Telstra spokesperson said the day of outages was caused by a technical issue. "The disruption today...was caused by a card failure in a media gateway in Victoria which meant certain calls could temporarily not get through," he said. "The media gateway allows the calls to connect.

"We are committed to redoubling our efforts on resilience in the network and part of that is conducting a major review in relation to the outages from last week and February."

The February outage resulted in a free data day for customers as compensation, and Telstra has promised another on April 3 in apologies for Friday, too. For many though, this breakdown may end up being the final straw.
