Saving for a Tesla Model X, and you're just about $9,000 short? Good news: You can buy yourself an ultra-fast, falcon-winged, electric SUV right now, as Tesla has just launched a new, cheaper model.

The Tesla Model X 60D starts at $74,000, which is $9,000 less than the Model X 75D. For the price, you get nearly the same performance as you do with the 75D -- 0-60 mph in 6.0 seconds and a top speed of 130mph, but the 60D has less torque than the 75D (325 pound-feet versus 387 pound-feet).

You won't be getting the same range, though. The 60D has a smaller, 60kWh battery, which according to Tesla's specifications only allows for a 200-mile range, compared to 75D's 237 miles.

The Model X is also available in two more powerful options -- 90D, which starts at $95,500, and P90D, which starts at $115,500.

The lower-priced Model X follows the launch of a 60kWh battery variant of Tesla's Model S electric sedan in June.

The announcement comes at a tough time for Tesla, which has lately been missing delivery estimates and has had to deal with several accidents involving its semi-autonomous Autopilot driving software -- one of which was fatal. On Sunday, Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced he might reveal a secret Tesla "masterplan" this week, but hasn't provided any other details.
