Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir: The endless 'will they, won't they'

Is there hope or is this all just weird?

Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir, the Canadian ice dancing pair people (we) love to ship, took gold in Pyeongchang on Tuesday. This might also be their last Olympics together, which has led people (us) to speculate: are they gonna date now or what?

The two certainly seem to have feelings for each other. There's the on-ice kissing, the way they look at each other, the steamy Moulin Rouge program that is somehow sexier than anything in Moulin Rouge. (There's also this one to "Stay" by Rihanna, which will destroy you.)

And there is, of course, this moment.

But there's also the fact that their sport is one that often features romantic storytelling. The better the couple's ~love vibes~, the more convincing their performances are, and the better their score is likely to be. If you (we) are captivated by the sexual tension between them, it probably just means they're doing their jobs correctly. Emotion is part of their strategy, and it pays off.

And that, ultimately, is what we think is going on when they play coy -- when they fail to say they're not dating. Take Tuesday morning's TODAY interview, for instance. When Hoda Kotb asked Virtue and Moir for "a little 411" on their close relationship, Virtue said, "That's such a compliment that you feel that when you watch us skate. We absolutely love performing together. We love storytelling."

"Mission accomplished," Moir added.

Of course, there's always the possibility that these two ice lovers are actually attracted to each other. Honestly, there's a good chance they are. (They did date in elementary school, after all.) They just care more about the two decades of work they've put in on the ice than risking it all on a relationship.

So, perhaps the two will finally get together after they retire. Perhaps they won't. Perhaps all this analysis is a little weird. (It is.)

But look at these gazes and see if you don't get attached!!!
