Thai attackers of elderly British couple and son jailed

A Thai court has sentenced four men to two years in jail for a brutal attack on an elderly British couple and their son while they were walking on a busy street at a beachside resort.

Lewis Owen, 68, his wife Rosemary, 65, and their 43-year-old son Lewis were punched, kicked in the face and knocked to the ground during the Songkran Water Festival in Hua Hin, a coastal town about three hours south of Bangkok. 

A video of the attack, which was captured by overhead security cameras and posted on social media, has stirred shock and outrage over its brutality and the ages of the elder victims.

The three were taken to the hospital where the younger Briton received 7 stitches to the head. His father had a swollen wound in the head and the mother suffered a serious head injury. 

The assault, which took place on Apr. 13 according to local news site Khaosod English, started when the couple's son touched shoulders with a Thai man carrying a bottle.

The four attackers pleaded guilty to the assault and apologised to their victims and to Thailand for damaging its reputation, according to The Nation
