No one will tell me if weed is allowed in 'The Bachelor' mansion

Who wouldn't want a pre-rose ceremony joint?

As a staunch member of Bachelor Nation, I watched last week's premiere of season 24 with enthusiasm, and was ready to watch Peter Weber's "journey to find love."

Partway through the episode, I could not help but notice how contestant Katrina Badowski — who was later eliminated during the first rose ceremony — seemed a bit...elevated.

"You need to risk it for the biscuit," Badowski said. "And he looks like a really fucking hot biscuit." The biscuit she was referring to was, of course, Bachelor Peter.

As someone who partakes in cannabis (only in places where it is legal and not in my apartment minutes before this episode started, of course), something about Badowski's look, mode of speech, and the content of what she was saying led me to believe that she was possibly, to put it bluntly, blazed as fuck.

It makes sense! Weed is legal in California, the state where The Bachelor mansion resides, and who wouldn't want to calm their nerves with a little pre-cocktail party joint? Or perhaps little a edible chocolate, as a treat?

Given that weed is legal in California and Bachelor producers having no qualms giving the contestants alcohol to imbibe and loosen up (though they have gotten stricter ever since an assault scandal in 2017), is the newly legal drug allowed in the Bachelor mansion?

As I soon discover, though, finding an actual answer was difficult.

A spokesperson for Warner Bros (while The Bachelor is aired on ABC, Warner handles production) said they had nothing to contribute to this piece.

A former producer said they did not know, but mentioned that since weed is not federally legal it's unlikely.

I contacted several current contestants and received no response. I also contacted several former contestants — mostly post-2018, when California legalized recreational pot — and received no response.

Many items are considered "contraband" in the mansion, like iPhones and computers and even books. Contestants have described being "cut off" from the world, left with not much to do all day but think about the lead. Since weed does not grant internet access, it's possible for them to sneak it in, and maybe producers would be even more lenient finding weed on someone's person rather than a phone.

And so, I have no idea whether weed is allowed in the Bachelor mansion. I don't know whether Badowski or any other contestant decided to take the edge off with the devil's lettuce. And I don't know whether we're ever going to see a group date at one of Los Angeles's premiere dispensaries anytime soon.

If you know any information about this, I'd love to know. Until then, I'll be questioning any Bachelor conversations about biscuits.
