Anything can happen on The Chris Gethard Show -- the live comedy performance turned public access hit turned cult cable fave -- but thanks to a new partnership with Reddit, the call-in series is about to get even crazier.

The show is broadcast live every Thursday at 11 p.m. ET on TruTV, but Mashable can exclusively reveal that on September 14, the series is launching a first-of-its-kind livestream on Reddit, featuring special guest John Oliver.

The partnership will allow fans to stream the full episode on Reddit, interact in real time with other viewers on the site, and take part in the show themselves by submitting questions and comments to Gethard, Oliver and the cast via the show’s new Reddit profile page.

This is the first time the social site has paired with a media partner to allow live streaming video and live commenting direct from a Reddit profile, and given the interactive nature of TCGS -- which takes calls from fans across the globe live on-air -- it makes a lot of sense.

In The Chris Gethard Show, the eponymous host attempts to ring-lead a panel of comedian friends, along with fans in the studio, to participate in games and tackle stunts. Gethard also takes calls via phone and Skype during the show, in addition to man on the street segments, allowing viewers to interact with the guests in real time.

The Chris Gethard Show is a wild, wonderful community of inclusive eccentrics, which is also a pretty spot-on description of many of the folks on Reddit,” said Puja Vohra, executive vice president of marketing and digital for truTV. “Through this partnership, we’re taking one of the most engaging, immersive live experiences on television to the next level and showcasing it on a massive platform of engaged users to make sure fans know The Chris Gethard Show has a new home on truTV.”

TCGS has a storied history, beginning as a monthly live show at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in 2009. In 2011, it made the jump to public access TV via the Manhattan Neighborhood Network, where it amassed a cult following over the next four years. In 2015, the series was picked up by cable network Fusion for two seasons, before it made the jump to TruTV this August.

The show's quirky charm and spontaneity have attracted a loyal audience and lured a host of stars to participate over the years, including the likes of Amy Poehler, P. Diddy, Lena Dunham and Paul Giamatti.

The Chris Gethard Show's extra interactive, extra live episode airs Thursday, September 14 at 11 p.m. ET on TruTV and via the show's Reddit page.

Full disclosure: Turner Broadcasting, which owns TruTV, is an investor in Mashable.
