The Handmaid's Tale author Margaret Atwood announced on Twitter Wednesday that rumors of a sequel to her bestselling novel turned Emmy-winning TV show are true.

The sequel, called The Testaments, will feature multiple narrators and take place after the events of The Handmaid's Tale.

With the announcement of The Testaments, which Atwood said would be out in autumn 2019, Atwood included a graphic saying that fan questions about Gilead and its "inner workings" were part of the reason she decided to write the book. She also cited the current dumpster fire political climate (OK, she didn't exactly say "dumpster fire") as inspiration.
