You need to be watching 'The OA' so you can freak out with everyone
Even if you're late to the party for Netflix's The OA (it released on Dec. 15), fear not, for it will rage throughout the holidays and into 2017. Netflix's latest mystery thriller has shades of Stranger Things and Sense8, but like those sci-fi standouts, it occupies an entirely unique realm.
The OA opens with a highly triggering suicide setup: A young woman runs to the edge of a bridge, lets go and falls (Netflix tweeted the clip out to tease the show's premiere). This is hardly a spoiler, because several seconds later you learn that she survived. The woman in question is Prairie Johnson, but she goes by The OA. Prairie has been missing for seven years, and when she disappeared, she was blind -- but now she's not.
There's little else that can be said about The OA without spoiling it, but there are some very compelling reasons to watch. It's a slow burn, but only eight episodes, and the mystery -- the gaping cliffhanger -- is part of the fun.
People are already pretty into it.
