Meryl Streep + Tom Hanks = a great idea.

Good news, everyone: The Post is reportedly just as good as you'd think a movie directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks would be.

The first wave of critical reactions are in, and for the most part, they range from good to glowing. No surprise Streep and Hanks are getting praise for their work, but Bob Odenkirk is also getting his fair share of compliments.

It helps, too, that the premise feels so timely. The Post centers on The Washington Post's publication of the Pentagon Papers in 1971, in defiance of the Nixon administration's efforts to restrain the press.

All of this makes The Post must-see as we approach the end of the year – and especially if you're invested at all in the awards race, where there's a good chance The Post will find some heat.

The Post is in theaters December 22.
