Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has taken to Instagram to speak directly to his fans, following the death of his father, Rocky Johnson, last Wednesday.

In a moving eight-minute IGTV video, Johnson thanked people for their support before opening up about his relationship with his father, his sudden death, and dealing with the aftermath.

"As you know I lost my old man a few days ago — I lost him just like that," Johnson said. "Didn't get a chance to say goodbye to him. I would give anything right now to give him a big old hug and a big old kiss, before he crossed over, and just say thank you and I love you, and I respect you. But I didn't get a chance to say that.

"But such is life, as many of you know."

Johnson went on to explain that his father died quickly following a heart attack caused by deep vein thrombosis. He then appealed to his fans to go and hug their loved ones.

"If you guys out there have parents around, your mom, your dad, your wife, your husband, your babies, your children, your best friends, your grandparents — text them," Johnson says. "Call them. Go see them. If they're close by, and if you can hug them, I want you to hug them. You tell them that these are the marching orders from Dwayne Johnson, who just lost his old man.

"But you hug them and you hug them hard, because that's what I'm doing with my family, and my friends, and the ones I love. I'm hugging them hard, because you never know what's around the corner. You just never know. Here today, gone tomorrow."

A few days ago, Johnson shared an old WWF clip of his father in the ring, being announced at the start of a tag team match.

At the end of the clip the camera cuts to the crowd to show a young Dwayne, eagerly looking on as his dad's name is called.
