The first trailer for The X-Files Season 11 debuted at New York Comic Con and, as fans might've hoped after last season's cliffhanger, the first footage from the revival's revival focused heavily on Mulder and Scully's son, William.

"We explore that relationship, the father-son-mother relationship, and you’ll see more of William than you’ve seen in a long time," series creator Chris Carter promised on the panel.

"It’s really cool, the William storyline," star Mitch Pileggi (aka Skinner) weighed in. "I think it’s really done well; I think you guys are gonna be very, very happy with it."

Fans were understandably frustrated that Mulder and Scully's romantic connection was backburnered in Season 10, but Carter promised that the two will get closer in the upcoming episodes.

"They get kissin' close," he quipped. "The cliffhanger [from last season], we’re dealing with in the first episode, so there’s no tongues. And then Mulder and Scully are still professional partners, they’re not romantic partners … but we do explore that relationship in interesting ways, so hang in there."

Eagle-eyed fans may have spotted Langley in the trailer, and Carter was cagey about his involvement: "I can't tell you anything; I can just tell you that Langley is in the show this season."

Fans hankering for more Skinner will also get their wish in Season 11 -- the sixth episode will be a Skinner backstory episode. "[You'll be seeing me] more than you did in the last six, which I’m very happy about. They’re doing some cool things and you’re finding out some more about the character that you didn’t know," said Pileggi.

Here's what else we learned from The X-Files panel:

  • Episode 3 will be a doppelganger episode starring Karin Konoval (Mrs. Peacock from "Home"), who will be playing four different characters -- two of which are men.

  • Episode 8, written by "Home" scribes Glen Morgan and James Wong, will be "similarly messed up," much like that iconic installment.

  • We'll get some Cigarette-Smoking Man backstory in the first episode of the new season.

  • There will be eight standalone (aka monster of the week) episodes and two mythology episodes this season, although Carter promised a "character arc" that threads through all 10.

  • Fans looking for easter eggs should keep an eye on Mulder's bulletin board, according to Chris Carter. And there's another family connection to those hidden callbacks: "Gillian’s daughter Piper, she’s been working in the art department this season and has her own special take on the show," Carter said. "She's good at easter eggs," Anderson confirmed.

  • Season 11 will end on a cliffhanger.

The X-Files Season 11 premieres on Fox in 2018.
