'Three Billboards' wins Globes' Best Picture but not everyone's happy about it
Taking out one of the two top gongs for the Golden Globes, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri has won this year's Best Picture: Drama.
Voted by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the film trumped Call Me By Your Name, Dunkirk, The Post, and The Shape of Water for the Globe. But not everyone was psyched about it.
Written, produced and directed by British Irish playwright Martin McDonagh, black comedy-crime drama Three Billboards follows the exploits of Mildred Hayes (Frances McDormand) challenging seemingly complacent local authorities to solve her daughter's unsolved rape and murder.
The film took home a few of the top Globes —McDormand landed Best Actress, and star Sam Rockwell scored Best Supporting Actor. And while Martin McDonagh lost Best Director to The Shape of Water's Guillermo del Toro, he won Best Screenplay.
Not everyone was convinced of the film as victor, however, with journalists, commentators and onlookers rushing to Twitter to vent their dissatisfaction with the Best Picture result.
