Amid a wave of verification changes across social media, Tinder is switching up how to get photo verified on its app. Now, users are asked to take a selfie video to better prove they are who they say they are. Tinder claims this will make the photo verification process more secure.

Previously, members who wanted to be Photo Verified on Tinder took static selfies and those photos were compared to others on their profile. Now, members will have to complete several video prompts. "While no photo verification process is perfect," the press release says, "this helps Tinder keep those blue checkmarks more real."

Additionally, Tinder users will be able to choose to only receive messages from Photo Verified members by selecting "Photo Verified Chat" in Message Settings. Daters can also ask matches to verify their photos before they message. Tinder Gold members will be able to filter "Likes" for Photo Verified members only.

Video selfies in Photo Verification are available today, worldwide. In the coming months, the app will ask members to update to this video version of photo verification. The rollout of "Photo Verified Chat" will be in the coming months.

"Tinder daters consistently tell us that photo verification is one of their most valued safety features," said Tinder's SVP of product integrity, Rory Kozoll. "The tool provides one more way to help members better assess the authenticity of their match. For our 18-25 year old members, being Photo Verified gives them a 10 percent higher chance to match."
