The Crown has won Best TV Drama at the 2017 Golden Globes, beating out Westworld, This Is Us, Stranger Things and Game of Thrones.

The lavish Neflix drama was nominated for three Golden Globes overall -- the other two nods were Best Actress in a Television Series for Claire Foy, who also won, and Best Supporting Actor for John Lithgow, who lost to Billy Bob Thornton (Goliath).

The Crown recently scooped a Critics' Choice award for Lithgow, and will no doubt capitalize on its Globes momentum going into awards season, with Emmys victory firmly in its sights.

As a counterpoint to the Emmys -- which often reward the same series for several years in a row -- in recent years the HFPA has recognized freshman dramas (or shows they haven't previously awarded); the last two winners in the category were Mr. Robot and The Affair, both in their first seasons.
