Though he's in better spirits now, Tracy Morgan wasn't feeling optimistic after his traumatic 2014 car accident

He worried that the wreck would cause him to "lose my funny," he told Rolling Stone.

"I said, 'If my funny ever went away, I'd die,'" the comedian said. "And I thought I was going to die for a long time. My thoughts -- I was in a very dark place. I was sitting right here, contemplating suicide. I couldn't walk."

Morgan sustained numerous injuries -- including broken bones, cracked ribs and a serious brain injury -- after a Wal-Mart truck slammed into the back of his limo van. Comedian James "Jimmy Mack" McNair was killed in the accident. Morgan filed a lawsuit against Wal-Mart, which was settled last May.

In the Rolling Stone piece, Morgan reveals more about the accident, saying that he was blind for six days after he woke up from a coma. He still walks with a limp and suffers from memory lapses.

The 30 Rock star -- who's currently racking up standup gigs and has a new FX show in the works with Jordan Peele -- joked that he didn't go up to heaven because he thought the white light "was the police." He added more seriously that his late father is the reason he's still here.

"He was the one who said, 'Go home, son. I ain't ready for you yet,' " Morgan said. "I don't think I cheated death. I think this was the plan. My room wasn't ready."
