If you're interested in never trusting your eyes ever again, check out this baffling 3D painting from UK artist Patrick Hughes.

The work, which is currently on display at the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, is called "Superduperspective." This is not a real word, which makes sense because nothing about this painting is grounded in reality.

Superduperspective by Patrick Hughes, 2002

Patrick Hughes, Superduperspective, Construction with oil on board, 2002 - this popular 3D art work in now back on display BMAG in our 130th birthday exhibition. Birmingham born artist Patrick Hughes is the creator of "reverspective", an optical illusion on a 3-dimensional surface where the parts of the picture which seem farthest away are actually physically the nearest.

From the side? Definitely a 3D painting. From the front? Oh, maybe it's not 3D after all. But wait ... is it concave? Is it convex? Are our friends really our friends? Is anyone who they say they are? What is existence, really?
