Brooklyn rapper Troy Ave has been formally charged with attempted murder and criminal possession of a weapon in the fatal shooting at T.I.'s show at New York's Irving Plaza last week.

Arriving in a wheelchair, the rapper born Roland Collins appeared in a Manhattan Criminal Court on Monday and asked for $50,000 bail, but a judge denied his request, according to The New York Times. He is being held without bail.

Troy Ave was one of four people shot. One of the wounded, Collins' bodyguard, Ronald McPhatter, died from his injuries.

Security footage from the venue showed a man who police have identified as Collins shooting a firearm backstage. According to police, a fight had erupted minutes before the shooting took place.

Model Maggie Heckstall, 26, was shot as well, telling the New York Post she was hit in the knee in the VIP room as she was preparing to take a Snapchat. Christopher Vinson, a 34-year-old bystander, was also injured, according to the New York Daily News.

"This defendant is on video coming out of the VIP room where the individuals were shot," Assistant District Attorney Christine Keenan said in court, according to Daily News. "He had the gun in his hand and was seen firing that gun in the direction of fleeing patrons."

Prosecutors are awaiting ballistics tests and depending on the results may upgrade Collins' attempted murder charge in relation to McPhatter's death, the Daily News reports.

Collins' lawyers, Scott E. Leemon and John Stella, said he was not responsible for McPhatter's death, according to the newspaper.

"What really happened here is Mr. Collins here is the real victim," Leemon said. "The person who was killed at this event, he died a hero. He was his bodyguard. He wasn't shot by Mr. Collins. He was a lifelong friend."
