The White House might have inflated Trump's golf record, because this is how we live now

The statement "President Trump has a big ego" is news to absolutely no one at this point. It was recently discovered the president even had a fake Time magazine cover (featuring himself, of course) framed at several of his golf courses. But would he really go so far as to have the transcript of a White House Press Conference altered after the fact just to make him seem like a better golfer?

Unfortunately, the answer is not a resounding "no."

During last week's press conference announcing the appointment of Anthony Scaramucci as the new White House communications director, Scaramucci began his tenure by heaping praise on the president's surely giddy shoulders. Scaramucci proclaimed Trump could throw a football through a tire (?), and boasted that Trump "sinks three-foot putts. I don't see this guy as a guy that's ever under siege."

A weird string of praise, to be sure, but not unusual for this administration. That is until Daily Show producer Matt Negrin pointed out that Scaramucci's original statement was later edited on the official White House transcript to make Trump's golf record ten times more impressive:

You read that right — the official White House transcript was changed to read that Trump "sinks 30-foot putts."

Naturally, the insanity of this was not lost on Twitter:

Now, to give the full benefit of every doubt, it is possible the change was made in error, and the addition of the extra zero was a typo. Mashable reached out to the White House for comment, but has not received a response.

Unfortunately, given the track record of this administration, a deliberate altering of the transcript seems well within the realm of possibility. Stranger things have happened.
