Some female members of the media are calling for the firing of Donald Trump's campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski, who denied that he grabbed and left bruises on a female reporter despite a police charge against him and videotape of the incident.

Lewandowski, supported by Trump's campaign, has ignited an online firestorm after he maintained that he is innocent of grabbing former Breitbart reporter Michelle Fields. Field's former editor, Joel Pollak, admitted he was wrong in not believing her

Now a group of conservative writers, all women, are calling for Lewandowski's job for his "inexcusable and unprofessional" conduct toward a reporter. The writers all acknowledge that the Trump campaign has said that Lewandowski won't be fired, but endeavors to take a stand on "the difference between right and wrong."

"Never in this line of work is it acceptable to respond to a reasonable and legitimate questioning with the use of physical force," the letter said. "The Trump campaign has stated that Lewandowski will not be fired even if convicted, however unlike the Trump campaign, we believe in making a statement on the record to clearly highlight the difference between right and wrong."

The letter was signed by 16 members of the media, including Fox News contributor Katie Pavlich, The New York Daily News' S.E. Cupp, and Cosmopolitan columnist Meghan McCain — the daughter of former Republican presidential nominee John McCain.

Conservative Dana Loesch tweeted out the letter along with some of the aggressive trolling she received in response.

Notably, also signing onto the letter was Breitbart reporter Mary Chastain. Editors at the conservative news site initially cast doubt on Fields' allegations against Lewandowski and ordered staffers to stop defending Fields publicly.

Corey Lewandowski was charged with simple battery on Tuesday after Breitbart reporter Michelle Fields alleged he grabbed her arm during a Trump campaign event.

Trump said firmly at CNN's town hall in Wisconsin on Tuesday night that Lewandowski would keep his job.
