We asked the network behind Shark Week about Trump's shark fears. Here's what it said.

Sharks in DANGER, Donald.

There's a lot to fear with Donald Trump in the White House -- but his worst fear? Sharks, apparently. Which isn’t sitting well with Discovery Channel.

Mashable reached out to the Shark Week network after reading a report alleging that Trump once said, “I hope all sharks die.” Its response was measured.

“Shark Week celebrates the wonder of these majestic creatures and their critical importance to the ecosystem,” a Discovery Channel representative told Mashable when asked for comment about the president’s Shark Week viewing habits and fears. “Their safety and conservation is the most important message conveyed throughout the week.”

This all started with a report from In Touch in which Stormy Daniels, the adult film actress who allegedly had an affair with Trump, said she recalled Trump watching Shark Week when they had dinner together, specifically an episode about "like the worst shark attack in history."

"He is obsessed with sharks. Terrified of sharks,” recalls Daniels, who was reportedly paid thousands by the president to keep silent about their relationship.

Trump also reportedly told her something along the lines of "I donate to all these charities and I would never donate to any charity that helps sharks. I hope all the sharks die."

As usual, Trump's fear and basis for it are pretty childlike.

According to Oceana, nearly one in four sharks is in danger of extinction. NOAA notes that less than a dozen out of the 300 or so species of sharks have ever attacked humans (most of the time, humans attack each other). Many shark species are endangered, and conservationists are fighting to protect them; having a President with such a vehement anti-shark stance is actually terrible for these animals' survival.

Shark Week returns July 23.
