After the massive success of The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story, public interest in true crime stories shows no sign of abating -- and now USA Network has hopped on the bandwagon with a project focused on the unsolved murders of Tupac Shakur and Biggie Smalls.

USA has given a pilot order to Unsolved, from People v. O.J. director Anthony Hemingway, who will direct and executive produce along with Mark Taylor through their Hemingway | Taylor production company. The show is a scripted true crime serial that chronicles the two major police investigations into Shakur and Smalls' deaths.

The drama, which hails from Universal Cable Productions, is based on the experiences of former LAPD Detective Greg Kading, who is consulting on the pilot script and will also serve as co-executive producer. Kading led multiple law-enforcement task forces investigating the murders and authored the book "Murder Rap: The Untold Story of Biggie Smalls & Tupac Shakur Murder Investigations."

"Suits" writer Kyle Long is penning the pilot and will also executive produce.

The project is the latest in a line of true crime series coming to TV following the success of O.J., Netflix's Making a Murderer and HBO's The Jinx. NBC has given a straight-to-series order to Law & Order: True Crime, the first season of which will focus on the Menendez brothers, while the second and third seasons of American Crime Story will focus on the failures of officials to adequately react to the crisis of Hurricane Katrina, and the murder of Gianna Versace, respectively.

Smalls' lyrics will also inform a new comedy series on TBS, Think B.I.G., which will follow the misadventures of an inner-city teen desperately trying to create a better future for his daughter and infant son.
